With the Government’s Help to Heat Scheme, farmers could be eligible for one of our Free Boiler Grants or Free Storage Heater Grants

No matter where you farm in Britain, if someone living in your home or one of your properties is on benefit, and sometimes even if not, Happy Energy may be able to offer you a grant for a free boiler upgrade or free storage heater upgrades of installation.

If you heat your farm house with oil, LPG or storage heaters, grants may be available to upgrade your system with a brand new boiler or the latest modern high heat retention storage heaters.  If your farm is heated by mains gas, grants may still be available but there may be a contribution towards the cost as the grants for mains gas boilers are lower.  We can also offer grants for loft and cavity wall insulation.

Are grants available for new central heating?

Yes! The work will not be completely free, but grants are available towards the cost of installing a central heating system and a new boiler.

Am I eligible?

There are 4 main ways that you could be eligible for one of our farmer heating grants:

  • If you receive qualifying benefits
  • If you are connecting at least 2 properties into the same heating system
  • If you are on a low income and have high heating costs*
  • If you have a low income and someone in your home has a long term illness*

*The last 2 options are only available in certain local authority areas, if you are not on benefit but you are on a low income, please get in touch and we will confirm if your local authority area is covered by this scheme

Which benefits apply?

You should be eligible if you, or anyone living in your home receives one of these benefits:

  • Pension Guarantee Credit
  • Child or Working Tax Credit*
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Income Support
  • Universal Credit*

I am not on benefit but I am on a low income or suffer from an illness, am I eligible?

In some local authority areas it is possible for you to be eligible for the heating grant if you are on a low income and have high heating costs, for example you live in a large home with solid walls, or if you are on a low income and someone in your home suffers from a long term illness which can in some cases include mental health issues.  Currently most of the southwest is covered by this scheme but local authorities around Britain are also signing up.  If you believe you may fit these criteria please get in touch, we will need to ask you a series of questions and find out which local authority your home comes under.  We will then confirm if we are able to assist you with a heating grant.

I am not on benefit but have 2 or more properties I can connect to the heating system, what grants can I receive?

If you are connecting 2 properties together, you may be entitled to a grant regardless of your income.  This could be 2 houses, a house with an annexe or a row of farm cottages.  The properties must all be connected to the same boiler and because the grants are based on CO2 emissions savings, the highest grants are for homes heated by electricity, oil or solid fuel which install a low carbon heating system such as biomass, a heat pump or gas/LPG.  To find out more please contact us and tell us more about your properties and what current heating they have.  Holiday homes are not eligible but properties that are rented out on shorthand tenancies are.

Are park homes and caravans covered by these heating grants?

Farm caravanYes! Park homes and caravans are eligible for heating upgrades subject to the person living in the home being eligible as above.  If the person living in the park home is in benefits their benefits will need to be registered at the address of the park home.  If the benefits are not registered at the park home, we may still be able to help but we will need evidence that the person on benefit lives in the park home such as letters from a bank, council tax bills etc.
