Heat Pumps

Ground and air source heat pumps are a great renewable energy that can help you save energy and create year round heat and hot water for your home.

Daikon air source heat pumpBy harvesting the heat energy in the air or ground, a heat pump can be used to power underfloor heating systems and heat radiators, as well as produce hot water for you home or business.

Heat pumps are highly efficient – in fact around 300% efficient. This means that for every unit of energy they use in operation, they generate three or more units of heat to use in the home.Vaillant heat pump
What’s more, Ground and Air Source Heat Pumps are eligible for the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) which give householders payments for 7 years and businesses for 20 years.
Happy Energy can install a wide range of air source heat pumps including Vaillant, Worcester Bosch, Daikin and LG.  Heat pumps typically provide heat at a lower temperature to a normal gas or oil boiler, so if you are upgrading an existing heating system to a heat pump, you may need to add some additional radiators or increase the size of existing radiators.

Kenya ground source heat pumpGround source heat pumps take heat energy from either a bore hole, long shallow trenches or from water sources such as a lake. Water circulates through the earth or water source, extracting heat which is then boosted to the required temperature by the heat pump.  As a Cornwall manufacturer, Happy Energy recommends fitting the Kensa ground source heat pump which can be installed in homes, businesses and used for larger district heating systems.  Other makes can be installed for customers with another brand preference.

Overview of how an air source heat pump works from Mitsubishi

How do Heat Pumps work?

Heat pumps work by extracting the natural, latent heat in the air or ground around your home, increasing its temperature and pumping it inside the home for use in a number of ways including hot water, underfloor heating and radiators.

They are highly efficient and can even work when the outside temperature is as low as -14°C
